Old Smokey Charcoal Grill

If you’re a fan of BBQ then by now you have probably heard of the Old Smokey charcoal grill. And if you’re a faithful fan like so many others, you probably swear by them and wouldn’t trade your grill for the world.  But, did you know that the best-loved grill company didn’t start out making grills?

Old Smokey actually started out under the name of Burkhead Mfg. Co. in 1923. The company began as a family-owned business in Houston, Texas selling oil, lard, beer and coffee cans, trashcan lids, stovepipe, washtubs and even buckets.

In 1953 Old Smokey introduced their first charcoal grill to the public after discovering that placing two of the buckets together made a unique cooking idea.

They presented the product as a gift to customers for their continued business. Not long after however, word got out and everyone wanted an Old Smokey grill!

Eventually, times changed and so did their customers’ needs. But, while a majority of Burkhead’s metal products became a thing of the past, their grills continued to be a favorite among BBQers everywhere and soon the company itself became known as Old Smokey.

Since then, they’ve expanded their business, still in the heart of Houston, Texas where they prefer to stick close to their original roots. Today Old Smokey is still known for their charcoal grill, which comes in three popular sizes.

The 14” grill is ideal for the bachelor or an afternoon BBQ with a friend. It’s also small enough for camping trips.

The 18” grill is perfect for a family BBQ and is their most popular one.

The 22” grill is for those who love to BBQ for a crowd. You can use it for a family reunion or that 4th of July backyard party you’ve been planning.

One of the unique features of each of the above grills is that it’s attached to short legs rather than the long ones found on many others. Plus, the grills are made from aluminized steel, which is resistant to corrosion and rust.

In addition to the charcoal grills, Old Smokey also makes an electric smoker for those who love smoked meats. The electric smoker is best for larger meats such as chicken, turkey, duck, roasts, ribs, and briskets. It’s ideal for smoking that Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas duck!

So, whether a BBQer chooses a charcoal grill or a smoker, he or she is bound to get some good eats! It’s no wonder Old Smokey Grills are praised by people everywhere!
